The UK and Ireland Testing Board (UKITB) is made up of volunteers from within the UK. The Directors work on a voluntary basis on the board. All are specialists, practitioners, consultants and trainers that have experience in software testing and quality assurance related positions.
The board represents a cross section of testing companies from the UK (large companies, smaller companies and training providers) where no more than 49% of the board can be selected from any one company.
Each board member has a set of defined responsibilities as shown in the image.
Bio Ian is an Associate Director for the IBM UKI Quality Engineering Practice, specifically responsible overseeing all UK BFSI accounts and Account Managing key BFSI accounts. Ian has worked in software testing for over 35 years. He has had several roles across a number of large systems integrators, leading practices, transformation, consultancy to name a few.
He has been involved with the UK Testing Certification bodies since 2007, being a founding director of the UK Testing Board.

My role My role for the UKITB is focussed on two core areas. Technology and Marketing.
Technology, making all the systems and services that support the UKITB as simple, integrated and easy to use / operate.
Marketing, bringing the UKITB brand to the UKI market, expanding on the power behind concept to drive not just certification but industrialisation and professionalisation.
Bio Geoff is VP of the Qualitest BFSI sector, specifically responsible overseeing all UK BFSI accounts and Account Managing key BFSI accounts. He has amassed a lot of experience having worked in QA for over 30 years.
I have been involved in Tester certification since 1996, initially working with the BCS on the ISEB scheme, an author of the Foundation and Practitioner syllabi. I was a founder member of the International Software Testing Qualification Board (ISTQB), the TMMi Foundation, and the UK and Ireland Testing Board and is the immediate passed Vice President of the ISTQB and Chairman of the UK and Ireland Testing Board. Geoff received the EuroSTAR Testing Excellence Award in 2008, and also the European Software Testing Awards Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
He co-authored the BCS book Software Testing – An ISEB/ISTQB foundation and is a recognised international speaker, keynoting in many conferences, and was the chair of the EuroSTAR conference in 2011.
My role The UKITB is a very strong team which makes my role as chairperson a little easier. My role surrounds working with the Board of Directors to ensure that UKITB delivers its strategic goals, and is a major influence within ISTQB (I sit on the ISTQB Strategy working group). Part of my role is ensuring we have succession planning in place and to provide a level of governance over all of our activities.
Bio Mike is Vice-Chair of UKITB and has been the long-standing representative to ISTQB. Mike has been a member of several ISTQB Working Groups, notably chairing the Core Advanced and Expert Level Working Group for 8 years. Mike's career has seen him author testing tools, build several testing services businesses and over recent years, have a close involvement with the UK Digital Apprenticeships scheme in a number of capacities, including being a member of an Industry ‘Trailblazer’ group setting standards, devising End Point Assessments, and acting as an Independent End Point Assessor for several of the Digital standards. Mike has also acted as a panel member setting the curriculum for UK Government (Department for Education) vocational T Levels.
Bio Exams Director for the UK Testing Board/ISTQB, delivering Industry exams and certifications, this enables me to apply industry wide experience and knowledge to ensure optimal solutions and innovation. We have created a high performing team that are engaged and successful in the delivery of English language exams to the UKITB and partners.
Bio I joined the UKITB in 2010 and have held a number of roles including being a writer and reviewer of ISTQB exam questions for CTFL, Advanced Test Analyst, Advanced Test Manager and Advanced Technical Test Analyst examination papers.
I also chair the Technical Advisory Group who review new syllabi on behalf of the UKITB and input into new ways of working for ISTQB.
Bio Simon has worked in software testing for over 30 years. He is an accredited TMMi Lead Assessor and currently leads the Process Improvement practice for Experimentus, providing consultancy to clients worldwide. He also leads the TMMi Local Chapter for the UK.
UKITB undertaking; The UKITB is committed to improving software testing practices. Using the Test Maturity Model integration (TMMi) to assess and improve test processes is a key part of this commitment and Simon’s role as the TMMi Local Chapter Lead for the UK is an important one for the UKITB in that context.

Bio Kathryn has been finance and office administrator for UKITB since its inception following an early career at NatWest and financial controller roles for several family businesses.
